Long Distance Ride Volunteers and Ride Safety By Connie Caudill and Dinah Rojek Every ride manager depends on volunteers in order to have a successful ride. Without volunteers we have no rides but with every volunteer there are risks that come along with their jobs. Volunteers…our heroes, make it happen! These special people help build, maintain and protect the trails we so enjoy riding, biking, and walking on! They get involved… in the conservation, restoration and preservation of our trails… insure that public lands remain open to recreational equestrian activity, assist the various federal, state and private agencies in their maintenance and management of public lands, they encourage and solicit active participation in the use of the public land resources by equestrian users and the general public, but most of all spend countless hours annually working on the trails with public agencies. In many cases this is the only way to keep some of the trails open! We strongly encourage all equestrians’ hikers, bikers, nature lovers to GET INVOLVED at any level they can, it is the least we can do for ourselves, our future and generations to come! |
